this is for medical work i think... but i could be wrong. Doesn't mean this is good for gaming... and it definitely is not comparing this to any other multithread processors (which would be more relevant)

its probably a document to try to persuade the higher ups to upgrade their currect cpus so that they can be more "cutting edge"

that being said... the cell processor will probably be the way of the future, but I will wait until they are able to manufa...

arkham... i think you took the analogy a little too far... i don't get it

note: not disagreeing... because... well... i don't get it ;-)

its too dark and creepy... its like they are saying, we'll let nintendo and microsoft have all the fun loving gamers, we want only the hardcore gamers...

Personally, I play both types of games, hardcore and, well, softcore? anyways, I like my console to be solace from the hardcore game.. when I got done playing condemmed it was nice to return to the bright dashboard and sigh some relief... ps3 just scares me... and the commercials don't make me want to pick on up.

I knew that xbox live had a lot of maintanence going into it, but never quite that much. I understand know why I pay $50/year for their service.

my bad to criticise.. didn't see the second post ;-)

similarities to GOW have to be forgiven... same engine, same company (although it doesn't have cliffyb on it this time... like ut2004 did)

i have to agree with bladestar.. the game looks much more similar to halo than to gears of war. It also looks very much like every other unreal tournament (except now with more vehicles) which isn't a bad thing, but because this game is not going to be as extensively optimized for a single platform it will not look as good as any single platform game.

plus, the gameplay is nothing like gears of war.

i know what you mean that it could be more extensive... but the developers have said that the user is able to adjust how much damage is actually done, because damage affects drivability... so if they put damage on full then the damage will be much more severe... this was probably on medium-ish. But i guess we'll know for sure when the game come's out.

i got a chance to play with the zune for a bit the other day because a friend of mine works on it for microsoft. it was pretty cool, but i don't think this delay is all the important right now... if the zune is a big hit in the US than it will translate into a hit over in europe next year... but if it flops in the US (which I think it might) then they are better off not launching it at all there.

I know its not what they wanted/planned, but America might be somewhat of a litmu...

i'm not sure it would be a bad thing if the multiplayer at least resembled halo 2 in some sort of way... it is still the most popular live game out there (250k people online every day) and that means they already found the best formula.. now its just time to improve on it, make it better, expand into some new territories... but no reason to drastically change what already works right?

first off, that was only a North american chart... but look at this chart:

http://www.vgcharts.org/usa...

it shows software sales on the platform, even with fewer consoles sold, the 360 is selling more games... how about them apples ;-)

component does do 1080p, and there are plenty of tvs that do that, plus the ps3 doesn't even come with hd cables...

linux is nice but people can easily customize there own OS which means hackers (aka modders) are going to be prevalent (not other people hacking your system, but users hacking their own system)

i looked it up, new bluray movies will be in vc-1:
http://pcworld.com/article/...

and it is actually the next standard of video compression, giving more quality at less the needed bandwidth. Microsoft already told its game developers that vc-1 is the defacto standard of the 360... all the movies that you download off the xlmp are in vc-1... in fact, mpeg-2 is old and is the reason whe...

umm... no VC-1 support? aren't new bluray movies supposed to be VC-1 encoded? or not... anyhow, that's a sore omission...

i'm glad to see you've calmed down. The projections due seem a very tough goal for microsoft to make, and to tell the truth, as a gamer, if they make only 8 million by year end but the lineup of games continues to impress, then i'll be happy.

however, any good business will set their sale targets high so that they don't become complacent. I'd love to see each console earn 1/3 the market, that would be best for gamers ;-)

while i don't see hd-dvd or bluray as beneficial for gaming until the next console cycle... it does stand as a tall order to reach 10 million, but with such a huge and diverse market they do have the ability (they launched in india and south africa plus in several "virgin" countries in eastern europe...) Plus, the ps2 sales benefitted from a very large and loyal japanese base (1/3 of the units sold were in japan... if xbox 360 had that support than they'd be at 9 million right now ...

but it looks kinda subpar... except the "zonal damage" i thought that was kinda cool... the artwork needs work and so does the graphic engine, but the concept might be cool if it is pulled off.

The PS3 has 22.4 GB/s of GDDR3 bandwidth and 25.6 GB/s of RDRAM bandwidth for a total system bandwidth of 48 GB/s.

The Xbox 360 has 22.4 GB/s of GDDR3 bandwidth and a 256 GB/s of EDRAM bandwidth for a total of 278.4 GB/s total system bandwidth.

Why does the Xbox 360 have such an extreme amount of bandwidth? Even the simplest calculations show that a large amount of bandwidth is consumed by the frame buffer. For example, with simple color rendering and Z testing at 55...
